Sir Bu Nair Island, one of the most exquisite and ecologically diverse islands in the Arabian Gulf is also opening to the public in the UAE, the first time in its history. It is a thrilling proposition as part of the 25 th anniversary of the Sir Bu Nair Festival, which honors the marine heritage, nature, and culture of Sharjah.
A Festival Celebrating Sharjah’s Natural Heritage
Sir Bu Nair Festival silver jubilee edition will be held between October 16 and 25 at the Al Heera Beach. Organized by Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority), the 10 days event is among the most significant environmental and cultural festival held in the UAE.
The festival will feature:
- Marine life and conservation educational workshops and talks.
- Local crafts, cultural stage shows and family friendly activities.
- Exhibits that can be interacted with and emphasize the environmental activities of Sharjah.

Experience Sir Bu Nair Island for the First Time
This is the first year that the visitors will have an opportunity to traverse the Sir Bu Nair Island as part of special island celebrations on October 24 and 25.
The expert-led and green activities on the island will be carried out, so that the delicate ecosystem is not harmed. Visitors can join:
- Boat tours sightseeing the pristine coast on the island.
- Coral saving classes to study marine protection.
- Snorkelling tours around colourful coral reefs.
- Nature reserve trails conducted by environmentalists.
Everything is free to attend, although one must register ahead of time. On the official festival site, visitors can make a reservation. The only entry is through personal boats or the use of special boats that cater to the registered day visitors.

About Sir Bu Nair Island
Sir Bu Nair Island is 110 km off the shore of Sharjah, covers 13 square kilometres and is encircled by the crystal clear water and white sands beaches.
- The island is a declared a protected area in 2000 and it is home to:
- More than 40 coral species and 70 species of fish, which include rays and the blacktip reef shark.
- Hawsbill turtles that nest on its shores are endangered.
Migratory birds and various sea life that exists in its pristine environment.
